Our Legacy of Successful Fisheries Projects

Over the years, UFAWU has successfully implemented numerous projects aimed at improving livelihoods, strengthening workers' rights, increasing productivity, promoting sustainable fisheries practices, improving occupational safety, supporting fish farming initiatives, and enhancing socio-economic development in fishing communities across Uganda. These completed projects continue to create lasting impact by improving incomes, creating employment opportunities, strengthening institutional capacity, and promoting sustainable utilization of aquatic resources.

Through partnerships with government agencies, development partners, private sector organizations, community groups, and international stakeholders, UFAWU has successfully completed a wide range of interventions covering fisheries development, aquaculture expansion, worker education, leadership training, environmental conservation, occupational health and safety, value addition, and market access. These achievements demonstrate the union's commitment to creating a stronger, safer, and more prosperous fisheries sector for all workers and stakeholders.

Communities have benefited from improved infrastructure, access to training, increased awareness of workers' rights, and better opportunities for participation in economic activities. The lessons learned from these projects continue to guide future interventions and strengthen the fisheries sector across Uganda.

Infrastructure and Community Development Projects

UFAWU has successfully contributed to projects that improved fisheries-related infrastructure including landing sites, processing facilities, storage systems, training centers, and community development facilities. These projects enhanced operational efficiency, improved working conditions, reduced post-harvest losses, and created more sustainable livelihoods for workers engaged throughout the fisheries value chain.
